KC Foodways™

Local Food Unity

We will drastically increase the percentage of locally grown and lightly processed food we eat in Kansas City!

How?

  • Build knowledge of why local food is so much better

  • Create broad awreness of local food companies and where to find them

  • Help small, local, growers, processors, makers, and retailers thrive against the industrial food system!

Step 1: Build Knowledge

None of this matters if Kansas Citians don’t recognize the overwhelming benefit of buying local food over industrial food; we must strive educate and empower our community to understand the importance of supporting local growers and producers. We will cultivate a deep-rooted appreciation for the value of locally sourced ingredients and instill a sense of pride and connection in every individual, creating a ripple effect that strengthens the foundation of our local food community.

Step 2: Create Broad Awareness

Small growers and makers, who lack the resources and extensive budgets of large industrial food companies, face significant challenges in promoting their products and reaching a wider audience. It is our mission and commitment to assist these local growers, makers, distributors, and retailers in spreading the word about their offerings and expanding their market presence.

Step 3: Advocate for Small Food Entities:

There is currently no collective advocacy for small food entities, including growers, processors, makers, and retailers. At KC Foodways™, we strongly believe that establishing such advocacy is a crucial initial move in fostering local food unity. In supporting these essential players in our local food system, we work tirelessly and humbly to ensure their growth and success.

Unity: Develop Shared Platforms

Small food entities need integrated systems that connect them with consumers, creating a seamless and enjoyable experience for finding, ordering, buying, and arranging delivery or pick-up. By establishing these connections, local food businesses can thrive by providing convenience and quality service to their customers while helping to strengthen the local food ecosystem. We don’t believe in reinventing the wheel, so we’ll find current initiatives we can support and offer our help.
